Best Cupcakes: Vanilla Pastry Studio in East Liberty

With five years of business under their belt, this pastry shop touts the freshest ingredients, including: actual Madagascar vanilla and Turner dairy products. Plus, the cupcakes are made fresh daily. The most popular flavors are vanilla, cookies and cream and velvet. The second place winner was Priory Fine Pastries on the North Side. And, the third place winner was Creative Cakes in Robinson Township.

Best Pies: Dudt’s Bakery in Wexford This bakery was busy with customers as WPXI interviewed them about the big win. They attributed the win to their secret recipes and fresh, made from scratch, never frozen, ingredients. Coming in second place was The Pie Place in Upper St. Clair. They attribute their award to their signature nine-inch deep pies with homemade twisted lattice tops. And with the third place spot, Soergel Orchard’s Family Farm in Wexford says their fresh ingredients and fruit is what clenched the votes. They also said Tom and Katie Cruise enjoyed dessert at this hot spot – so if it’s good enough for the stars, it’s probably good enough for the rest of us!
