Whenever you’re getting ready to move or you’ve just moved in, it can be quite important to stick to a budget. From a full relocation to a simple local move, it’s true there are certain expenses that come with the territory.
And yet how do we obtain the elusive champagne taste when our budget calls for basic soda or beer? How can we make our homes look expensive, while keeping it make it less of a financial drain? We’ve got some easily do-able ideas to try.
Tip Number One: Work with a Pro for an Hour
Sometimes getting the ideas is half the battle. This might include working with an interior designer, landscape architect, lighting design expert, a handyman, or cleaning service professional. Let them brainstorm and give you their most creative plans and ideas — then you can choose what to DIY or what to have them help incorporate over the next few months.
Tip Number Two: Paint it, paint it, paint it!
Cleaning up the smudges is one thing, but it might be time for a mini-overhaul. For less than $50 a gallon, you can add a fresh coat of paint and completely transform the look of a room — perfect before you list your home or right after your move to the new place.
Tip Number Three: Add Low-Maintenance Landscaping
Adding some colorful plants and shrubs can instantly increase your curb appeal (and on-screen!) to make your home appear more attractive to would-be buyers, or simply impress a neighbor or two. At the local garden center, be sure to look for native plants that don’t need as much water or extra attention.
Tip Number Four: Spruce up the Bathroom
Even if you don’t go through a full renovation, finding a way to update the bathroom(s) in your house with fresh hardware, wallpaper, paint, or some new artwork can add visual appeal and perceived value to your home’s appearance.
Tip Number Five: Any Kitchen Update
The kitchen is the heart of the home. From meal prep to entertaining to hosting those meetings with movers and shakers, the kitchen reflects so much of the overall mood in a household. If you don’t have the time or money for a full remodel, consider a minor update such as a faucet upgrade, some new lighting fixtures, or a new rug to help update the look.
